Position Details:

This position works 185 days per year; five days before school begins and ends on the last day of school.  It is scheduled 5 days per week at 8 hours per day, 6:15am to 2:45pm.

Annual, incremental pay increases are given for each year of service with the EVSC in this role if an employee has worked at least 120 days in a school year.  New employees will begin on step 0.

EVSC employees have access to the EVSC Wee Care Learning Centers.  The Wee Care program provides a quality early learning experience for employees' children as young as six weeks through age five at a special employee rate.  

This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA).  Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan.  Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan.

Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity. 

EVSC offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is a confidential, voluntary service that provides professional counseling and referral services designed to help employees and their family members with personal, job or family-related matters.

 

SUMMARY:

Responsible for all aspects of food production in assigned school, keeping within HACCP, food cost, and scheduling guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans, directs and supervises the preparation and serving of all food in the cafeteria.
  • Responsible for security of food and supplies and revenue.
  • Oversees and participates in cleaning of kitchen and related areas to ensure compliance with all sanitation codes.
  • Schedules employees, maintains time records, addresses employee concern and provides training as needed.
  • Ensures that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe working condition, and notifies the appropriate authority when repairs are needed.
  • Orders food and supplies and maintains accurate records on deliveries and usage.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

  • Good organization and math skills; ability to lift 50 lbs., ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to establish and maintain friendly effective working relationships with co-workers, staff, students and their parents.
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance with all district requirements and Board of School Trustees policies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Three to five years previous experience with quantity food preparation and service. Basic computer skills

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Successful completion of EVSC Food and Nutrition Manager’s Training Program and a food safety certification class.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and school staff.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight and volume measurement.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
